Explore our BDAA & HIA Award finalist projects
In an impressive achievement that underscores our commitment to superior building design, Sorensen Design has gained industry recognition as a finalist in both the Building Designers Association of Australia (BDAA) and the Housing Industry Association (HIA) awards for 2024.
Two projects, Foreshore Drive Waterfront and Bay Hues, stand out for their innovative approach, striking aesthetics, and thoughtful integration with the natural landscape. These nominations celebrate our attention to detail and client-centric philosophy.
HIA & BDAA Finalist: Foreshore Drive, Corlette
Located in a coveted waterfront locale, our Foreshore Drive Waterfront design exemplifies our team’s talent for creating homes that harmonise with their surroundings. This home design project has been recognised as a finalist in the HIA and BDAA’s New Residential Buildings (2-2.5 million) category, highlighting its luxurious appeal and advanced design approach tailored for coastal living!
Emphasis on light & space
With sweeping views of a north-facing waterfront reserve, the design maximises natural light, offering panoramic vistas from every corner of the home. Expansive glass panels and sliding doors frame the waterfront view, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor flow. Our focus on open-plan living is especially evident here, with spaces designed to feel vast and intimate, allowing for private family time and spacious entertaining areas.
Using natural materials such as timber and off-form stone further emphasises the connection to the coastal environment, grounding the modern structure with earthy, organic touches.
Luxury meets functionality
The layout is meticulously crafted, balancing luxury with practical living. High ceilings and spacious rooms create an open, airy atmosphere, while strategically placed built-ins and storage solutions ensure the home’s functionality.
Features like a chef’s kitchen, luxurious bathrooms, and versatile living spaces enhance the home’s appeal, while subtle yet sophisticated finishes add a layer of understated elegance.
Sustainable design considerations
Sorensen Design prioritised sustainability throughout the Foreshore Drive Waterfront project, incorporating solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and energy-efficient appliances that reduce the home's environmental footprint.
The design also features advanced insulation and glazing solutions, optimising thermal performance to suit the coastal climate.
BDAA Finalist: Bay Hues
Nominated in the BDAA’s Residential Alterations/Additions (up to $500k) category, Bay Hues represents our dedication to blending tradition with contemporary enhancements. This project redefines residential renovations by merging a vibrant design aesthetic with functionality, breathing new life into an existing structure.
Thoughtful adaptation & renewal
Instead of merely updating, we reimagined the layout to suit a more modern lifestyle while preserving original elements.
Our team carefully planned the addition to create harmony between old and new, allowing the home’s original character to shine through while improving usability. New windows and a restructured floor plan emphasise natural light and ventilation, creating a warm and inviting space.
Use of colours & textures
One of the defining aspects of Bay Hues is its masterful use of colour and texture, infusing each room with a unique personality while ensuring a cohesive aesthetic.
The design incorporates bold, earthy tones balanced with subtle hues, reflecting the surrounding landscape. Textured finishes like exposed timber and tactile surfaces create depth and warmth, giving the home a distinctive yet welcoming feel.
A focus on relaxation & wellness
The design of Bay Hues goes beyond aesthetics to prioritise wellness and comfort for the residents. We have crafted a space that promotes relaxation and wellbeing by integrating natural light, ventilation, thoughtful room layouts, large windows, and skylights. Spaces are also designed to encourage natural airflow, which enhances indoor air quality and maintains a comfortable climate throughout the year.
This focus on wellness creates an environment that feels refreshing and revitalising, aligning with modern priorities for health-oriented living spaces.
